We all try to avoid making mess, but unfortunately spills are bound to happen and unless you’re going for the shiny plastic look, á la dexter, at some point the sofa is going to need a good clean! The best methods for cleaning your comfy friend heavily depend on the type of sofa you have, as different fabrics can react very differently to different cleaning solutions.
First off, see if you can find the label or manufacturer's instructions, the last thing you want to do is ruin beautiful texture or colour by using the wrong spray. If in doubt, go light and avoid any cleaning solution, instead, contact the company as some sofas shouldn’t be cleaned with water and need a special solution. In the future, you may want to keep part of your sofa covered with a shawl or blanket- handy for stopping stains and frostbite, all in one!
All sofas should be cleaned with a vacuum, and while some can safely be cleaned with water or other heavy cleaning solutions, they should still be vacuum cleaned beforehand and regularly! If possible, use the softest upholstery attachment on your vacuum, make sure to get all dirt and debris out of cracks and creases, but also major areas otherwise cleaning could actually rub dirt in. Then, get stuck in with the solution suitable for your sofa and open the windows to let it dry faster. We can’t think of anything nicer than giving our dirty sofa a brand new clean.
